Payroll After 1 July: Super, Wage and STP Checks Small Teams Should Review
With Payday Super, wage-rate updates and STP records in focus, small employers need a payroll workflow that catches exceptions before staff or compliance records are affected.
Payroll is now a tighter cash-flow rhythm
From 1 July 2026, Payday Super changes the timing of superannuation payments for employers. At the same time, Fair Work wage-rate updates from 1 July 2026 mean many employers need to check payroll templates, award rates, pay categories and staff records before the next pay cycle becomes routine.
This is not just a software setting issue. Payroll affects cash timing, employee trust, PAYG withholding, STP reporting, super records and monthly management reporting. A small error can repeat quickly if no one reviews the exceptions.
The practical checks
Owners and payroll administrators should review employee details, pay templates, award or agreement references, ordinary time earnings, allowances, leave balances, deductions, super fund details, STP submission status and payroll journals in the accounting file.
The review should also ask what changed since the last pay run. New employee? Changed hours? Updated rate? Termination payment? Rejected super payment? Payroll should have a simple exception list, not a memory-based process.
Connect payroll with reporting
Payroll should flow into monthly reporting so the owner can see wage movement, PAYG withholding, super liabilities and cash needs together. That makes it easier to understand whether staff cost is moving in line with revenue and whether the next pay run is funded.
SRWN supports payroll, STP workflow checks, super records and reporting cleanup for Adelaide employers. The work is general workflow and record support, not employment law advice.
